Montvale, N.J., September 4, 2019 IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants) announced the winners of its annual Global Awards program and Lifetime Achievement Award. These honors acknowledge the accomplishments of IMA members and accounting and finance professionals who exemplify IMA’s mission and core values. Awards were presented during IMA’s Annual Conference & Expo, held in June in San Diego.

In the category of Exemplary Young Professional, which recognizes an IMA young professional with creative approaches to problem solving within the accounting and finance profession, IMA awarded Omnia Tarek Bakr, CMA, from the IMA Doha Chapter; Mason Zechariah Brady, CMA, from the Fresno Area Chapter; and Benjamin Joseph Wann, CMA, CPA, from the West Chester, Pennsylvania Chapter.

The Exemplary Board Member award recognizes a member of the IMA Global Board who exemplifies excellence as a board member through preparation, participation, and service. In this category, IMA recognized Ashley B. Gibson, CMA, CSCA, CPA, Global Board member and current chair of IMA’s Volunteer Leadership Committee.

In the category of IMA Champion, which recognizes an IMA member who has shown volunteer and leadership skills above and beyond what might be expected, IMA recognized two winners: Dr. Kimberly Swanson Church, from IMA’s Kansas City Chapter; and Lee H. Nicholas, CMA, CPA, from the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Chapter.

IMA bestowed this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award to Ronald D. Luther, CMA, CPA, from IMA’s South Central Indiana Chapter. The Lifetime Achievement award recognizes an IMA member who has demonstrated sustainable, extraordinary leadership and dedication to IMA over a lifetime of service.

Luther, with a 30-year career tenure at Cummins, has mentored young accounting and finance professionals and introduced them to the CMA® (Certified Management Accountant) program and all that IMA offers for their career development. He was instrumental in the creation of the IMA Century Student Scholarship Fund, which will provide financial help to those who demonstrate excellence in their accounting and finance studies, ensuring that every student has the chance to pursue a career in management accounting.

“Volunteerism is deeply embedded in IMA’s culture and is evidenced by the efforts of our Global Awards winners. We’re pleased to acknowledge these individuals for their outstanding commitment and service to the organization and our members,” said Christian Cuzick, CMA, IMA’s 2019-2020 Global Board Chair.

Each year, IMA recognizes the efforts of the association’s volunteers, and local chapters and councils through different types of recognition, commending outstanding programs in community service, communications and marketing, education and training, and membership development. IMA Global Award winners demonstrate a strong commitment to both the IMA organization and the accounting and finance profession.
