Montvale, N.J., March 28, 2016 – With graduation looming and an increasingly competitive job market waiting, the importance of differentiation early in one’s career is more crucial than ever before. Created byIMA® (Institute of Management Accountants), the association of accountants and financial professionals in business, and launched last March, the IMA Accounting Honor Society (IAHS) offers students the opportunity to stand out.
Designed to recognize and honor academic achievement in the study of accounting, IAHS offers members a certificate of recognition, graduation cord, digital badge recognition, and access to a member-only LinkedIn group of more than 800 students, representing 200 schools nationwide.
“With the job market more competitive than it’s ever been, the more students are able to differentiate themselves during the application process, the more they increase their chances of being hired,” said Raef Lawson, Ph.D., CMA, CPA, IMA vice president of research and policy. “Our goal at IMA is to help foster this success.”
IAHS membership is available to all students who meet the eligibility criteria:
- Attend an accredited college or university
- Be a declared Accounting, Finance, or IT major
- Have taken a minimum of three accounting courses
- Be enrolled in junior year or later in an undergraduate program, or a graduate or Ph.D. program
- Have an overall and accounting GPA of 3.0
- Provide a transcript as proof of eligibility
- Pay a one-time fee of $50 for lifetime membership
