Irvin N. Gleim, CMA, CFM, CPA, educator, author, and founder of the CMA^® (Certified Management Accountant) review course that bears his name, passed away peacefully on July 14 at the age of 78.

Before he founded Gleim Publications, Gleim was a professor of accounting. He received all his accounting degrees (B.S., M.S., and Ph.D.) from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. In 1971, he joined the faculty of the Fisher School of Accounting at the University of Florida. He retired as a full professor at the Fisher School in 1988 and was appointed professor emeritus, making him the youngest professor emeritus at any Association of American Universities (AAU)-member institution.

Gleim founded Gleim Publications in 1972 with a CPA Review book. He later expanded his product line to include review courses for other accounting certification exams, such as the CMA, CIA, and EA designations. Gleim earned his CMA in 1981.

Gleim’s stellar career earned him recognition and multiple awards for his many accomplishments, including the Lifetime Achievement Award in Education from the National Association of Black Accountants.

His legacy will live on across the accounting profession and beyond. He will be missed.”
