When and why did you become a CMA?

Right after graduating from Qatar University in 2007, I decided to pursue the CMA certification, which I earned in 2011. I believed that the CMA would boost my career development and increase my job opportunities in the future. In fact, the CMA equipped me with skills and experience that distinguished me from peers in my field; in addition, CMA certification helps me stay current and up to date with all the subjects related to my profession.

Can you share how the CMA has helped you reach your personal goals or the goals of your organization?

The CMA developed my skills and equipped me with the needed knowledge to manage the budgets of several international events. As a result, I’ve been chosen to participate in regional committees like the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) Basketball Organizing Committee, where I served as the finance and accounting professional in charge from 2012 until 2018. I also have served as a board member of the IMA Doha Chapter since 2016.

Complete this sentence: I make a difference as a CMA because:

I’m able to add value to any organization using my strategic management skills, leadership abilities, and commitment to ethics. I participate in shaping the future by making decisions that can help organizations create better opportunities for the next generation.

Is there a moment or experience that you are particularly proud of as a personal or professional accomplishment?

I led the accounting system transformation for the Qatar Basketball Federation, moving the organization from a manual accounting system to a computerized one with an ERP system. This enabled the organization to issue annual financial statement reports for the first time in 2015. Also, I have participated in reducing the organization’s operating costs by 10% annually for the past five years.

What advice would you give to someone looking for a career/job in accounting or finance where they can make a difference?

The key to success is to keep learning and building your knowledge base until you become an asset to any employer. Earning the CMA is only a step forward but certainly not the end.

Can you share your favorite inspirational quote?

“Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”? Muhammad Ali
