How did you first come across the CMA and what made you decide to pursue it?
I think I simply got tired of explaining what “Lic. Oec. Publ.” is and wanted to be something “certified” and easy to understand.
- In what ways do you think the CMA has impacted your career or professional journey?
Studying for – and passing – the exam helped me organize my knowledge and skills in a neat toolbox, giving them structure and a “label.” The more popular the “label” becomes in Switzerland, the sooner people stop asking about my skills and focus on questions and discussions that really matter.
- What is your proudest career moment or milestone as a CMA?
Realizing that I have the knowledge and skills to make a difference.
- What’s the best piece of advice you would give to CMA hopefuls?
Don’t wait for things to happen to you – go out and make them happen. Pursue that certification, apply for that dream job, have a growth mindset, and stay curious.
- For those taking the exam, what study tip(s) can you share?
Plan your work realistically, break it into manageable chunks, stay focused, and keep track of your learning progress.
- What’s the one thing you know now that you wish you knew at the start of your career?
While your skills portfolio and your “personal brand” are valuable assets, it’s all people’s business. Seek the company of more experienced people with a different worldview: Get to know them, treat them with respect, ask good questions, listen, learn, ask for feedback, don’t take it personally, and don’t be too afraid to make mistakes.
