Members preparing for the CMA® (Certified Management Accountant) exam have numerous options available to them, including resources on the IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants) website, textbooks, personal tutors, and – preferred by many – taking classes with a review course provider.

Here are two of the largest review course providers in Europe that offer CMA exam preparation:

Vrije Universiteit (VU)

The Netherlands has always had a strong, supportive base of IMA members seeking to boost their career and earnings outlook through CMA certification. That’s why for almost 30 years, Vrije Universiteit (VU) in Amsterdam has offered CMA review courses to those candidates preparing for the exam. Over three decades, VU’s program has grown rapidly: from about 30 candidates per class to more than 90. As one of the country’s leading academic universities, VU provides an inspiring learning environment and has broad experience in teaching and preparing candidates for the exams.

While VU’s review courses were initially – and still are – taught in Dutch, the university recently expanded its CMA program at its School of Business and Economics to offer an English-language CMA review course, specifically focusing on those finance professionals living abroad and working in the Amsterdam area. In addition, VU has partnered with NBA and IMA to offer tailored CMA programs for Dutch CPAs. Pass rates for those candidates who take the CMA exam, particularly in those courses led by Drs. Elbert de With and Brigitte de Graaff, LLM, MSc, CMA, are excellent.

IKAF (Institute of Accounting, Audit, and Finance)

Earlier this year, IMA signed a Memorandum of Understanding with its newest course provider in Europe: the Institute for Accounting, Auditing, and Finance (IKAF) in Kosovo, a professional nonprofit association and independent legal entity in the Balkans region in Europe.

IKAF, founded in 2005, specializes in providing qualifications in the fields of accounting, auditing, and finance in Kosovo, and in Balkan countries such as Albania, Montenegro, and Macedonia. As part of the partnership, IKAF is offering CMA review courses and review materials for the CMA exam to IMA members in the Balkans region. The recently launched courses are already attracting a large cohort of candidates in Greece and other Balkan countries. Courses are taught in Greek as well as in English.
