Faculty Friday

The latest Faculty Friday was held on November 4, titled “STEM: The Future of Accounting Programs.” It featured a discussion by Kofi Appiah Okyere, Ph.D., CPA, director of graduate accounting programs at Syracuse University; and J. Donald Warren, Jr. Ph.D., CPA, director, School of Accounting and Information Systems, Lamar University.

In their talk, Warren and Okyere discussed how the accounting profession expects that students have strong knowledge and skills in data analytics, information technology, cybersecurity, blockchain, and other related technology topics. As a result, colleges and universities are trending towards STEM-designated degrees for their accounting programs. These two faculty members discussed their experiences with the STEM certification process as well as the benefits gained and the resources available.
