IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants) has several exciting opportunities this fall for both academics and students.
Faculty Fridays
IMA’s popular Faculty Friday series continued on October 15 with a presentation by Sean Stein Smith, DBA, CMA, CPA, CGMA, CFE, assistant professor at Lehman College (CUNY), on the topic of cryptocurrencies. You can view his presentation, “Blockchain & Crypto—Updates and Future Directions for the Profession,” on YouTube.
On December 17, the Faculty Friday series will offer a presentation by Monique Kelley, from Fresno City College, and Wendy Tietz, Ph.D., CMA, CPA, from Kent State University, on using TikTok and other social media tools in the classroom. They will discuss teaching accounting using student-focused techniques that resonate with a tech savvy audience.
Looking into 2022, scheduled talks will include:
January 21: Ethics in the Digital Age, featuring Gerald Ratigan, CMA, CSCA, CPA, CPIM, senior director of accounting and financial reporting at Entertainment Benefits Group.
April 22: Integrating Sustainability into the Curriculum, featuring Kristine Brands, CMA, assistant professor of management at the United States Air Force Academy.
Student Series
IMA held another of its popular IMA Student Series: Finance and Accounting Panel events. The event was held virtually on October 6 and more than 500 students attended.
Moderated by IMA Business Development Manager Mary Patterson, the panel included:
- Michael Kelley, CMA, CPA, Operations Manager, Nike
- Dylan Azevedo, CMA, Senior Financial Analyst, Finance and Accounting Rotation Program, The Walt Disney Company
- Milly Ikundi, CMA, CPA, Finance Specialist, McKinsey & Company
- Lauren Johnson, CMA, Finance Director, R&D/Global Commercial Strategy, CVM and PH Therapeutic Areas at Janssen (Johnson & Johnson)
The panelists discussed their career journeys, the CMA® (Certified Management Accountant) certification, and tips for new graduates and young professionals. It was a lively discussion with many questions asked and answered.
