The ICMA® (Institute of Certified Management Accountants) Board of Regents, the body that oversees the CMA® (Certified Management Accountant) and CSCA® (Certified in Strategy and Competitive Analysis) programs, recently appointed a new Chair: Srikrishna Mankal, CMA, who will serve a three-year term from July 1, 2021, until June 30, 2024.
Mankal, who holds a BS degree in electrical engineering and is a private pilot, is director of financial planning and analysis (FP&A) at CAM, a Stanley Black & Decker Company, based in Southern California. Previously, he held managerial roles in finance, accounting, sales, and operational excellence. Mankal is a member of the Global Markets Standing Board Committee of the IMA Global Board. This is his second term on the Board of Regents; previously, he served several terms as a director of the IMA Research Foundation.
In addition, the Board of Regents appointed four new Regents to serve three-year terms effective July 1, 2021:
- Juan Carlos Moreno, CMA – Juan Moreno is senior director of finance at Blue Diamond Growers, based in Sacramento, Calif. He brings 20 years of experience in the consumer packaged goods space focused on global finance and business strategy. Prior to joining Blue Diamond Growers in 2016, Juan spent 15 years with General Mills and, before that, worked in his native Colombia for Nestle Purina. He holds a BS in Industrial Engineering from Universidad de los Andes and an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis.
- Dr. Jidong Zhang, CMA, CIA, CISA, CGAP, CHFP – Dr. Jidong Zhang is assistant professor of accounting at University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. He has taught managerial accounting and internal control in China, the Netherlands, and the United States. Jidong currently also serves in several nonprofit organizations as treasurer or on the board of directors. He was appointed to be an Energy Commission member by the City of Rochester, Minn., in 2021. Jidong has served as research director of IMA for six years and currently is an editorial board member for the IMA Educational Case Journal (IECJ®) and Strategic Finance. Jidong earned a Ph.D. degree from Guanghua School of Management, Peking University, China.
- M. Janet Baird, CMA – Jan Baird is currently the owner and CEO of Al’s Delicious Popcorn and advisory director at Jake’s Finer Foods. Prior to that, she was senior vice president, CFO, and COO for the A.W. Chesterton Company. Before joining A.W. Chesterton, Jan spent 23 years at OSRAM Sylvania, Inc., in a variety of roles leading to NAFTA Professional Lighting CFO. She earned a BS in Accounting from Penn State University and an MBA from Gannon University. Additionally, she holds two certificates from Cornell University in Manufacturing Management and Global Management.
- Tanya Shell, CMA, CSCA, CPA – Tanya Shell is vice president of finance for French Oil Mill Machinery Co., a custom manufacturer of hydraulic presses and processing equipment, and she held several controllership roles with global manufacturers in the past. Tanya just completed two terms on IMA’s Global Board of Directors. Previously, she chaired IMA’s Performance Oversight & Audit Standing Board Committee and was a member of the IMA Committee on Ethics. Tanya holds an undergraduate degree from Miami University and an MBA from the University of Dayton.
The major responsibility of the Board of Regents is to oversee the CMA and CSCA programs. Among its primary duties, the Board develops the overall strategy for the certification program, sets the requirements and policies for certification, reviews and revises exam questions as needed, oversees the administration of the exam, establishes the passing standards, and periodically reviews the content specifications for the exam and revises these specifications as appropriate.
