May 6 is now officially known as International Management Accounting Day®, a time to commemorate the important role management accountants play within their organizations.
In conjunction with this special day, IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants) has released a book, 100 Years and Counting: A History of the Institute of Management Accountants, authored by two former Global Board Chairs: C.S. “Bud” Kulesza, CMA, CFM; and John B. Pollara, CMA. Their book details the most intriguing people, noteworthy achievements, and dramatic occurrences of IMA's 100 years.
The book looks at the IMA organization – past, present, and future – and how it has advanced management accounting as a profession. From the 1919 founding of the National Association of Cost Accountants (IMA’s predecessor organization) in Buffalo, N.Y., to 2018 when IMA reached its 100,000-member mark, the book details the milestones and events that have transformed IMA into the global, diverse membership organization it is today.
"We chose International Management Accounting Day to release IMA's century-long history as an opportunity to celebrate the past and look to the future of the organization and profession," said Pollara.
Noted Kulesza, "In reviewing IMA's influence on management accounting over the past century, we are utilizing prior successes as well as our shortcomings to strategize the next 100-plus years of the profession."
Hard copies of 100 Years and Counting: A History of the Institute of Management Accountants are available for members to purchase for $24.95 (an online version is available on IMA’s 100th Anniversary microsite at no charge). Copies will also be for sale at the IMA Annual Conference & Expo in San Diego on June 15-19.
In addition to the book, two new resources are also now available to help celebrate IMA’s 100th Anniversary:
