Two longstanding IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants) Global Board members are making important contributions to influential professional organizations: The PhD Project and the IIRC (International Integrated Reporting Council).

The PhD Project

Sandra Richtermeyer, Ph.D., CMA, CPA, former IMA Global Board Chair and current dean of the Manning School of Business at UMass Lowell, was recently appointed as IMA’s representative to the board of The PhD Project, an award-winning program founded in 1994 to create a more diverse corporate America by diversifying business school faculty.

As part of her new role, Richtermeyer served as a keynote speaker at The PhD Project’s Accounting Doctoral Students and Faculty Alumni Associations Conference, held in San Francisco on August 11. During her presentation, Richtermeyer discussed the advantages of being associated with professional organizations, including IMA. Also attending that conference on behalf of IMA was Linda Devonish-Mills, CMA, CPA, CAE, IMA director of diversity and inclusion, who spoke at a breakfast meeting about the benefits of IMA membership for faculty and students.

Richtermeyer has served IMA and the profession in a variety of leadership roles over many years. She is a cofounder and regular presenter at Women’s Accounting Leadership Series events, a member of the IMA Emeritus Committee, and the recipient of numerous awards for her educational and volunteer service.

This past March, IMA became a co-sponsor of The PhD Project, which aims to address the severe under-representation of African-Americans, Hispanic Americas, and Native Americans in corporate America by supporting the development of a diverse pipeline of accounting and finance PhDs who can serve as mentors and role models for minority students. IMA’s sponsorship of the project complements its commitment to increasing diversity within the profession and its own volunteer leadership.

International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC)

IMA Global Board member Brad Monterio was recently appointed to the IIRC, representing IMA on this prestigious and influential body.

The IIRC is a global coalition of investors, companies, regulators, standards setters, the accounting profession, and NGOs. Its stated goal is to “promote communication about value creation as the next step in the evolution of corporate reporting.”

Monterio will be welcomed and recognized during the IIRC’s next meeting, which will be held in New York City on November 7.

Monterio is managing director of Colcomgroup, Inc., where he advises organizations about strategy around the intersection of technology, business, and accounting/finance. He began his career at Chase Manhattan Bank and currently serves as a member of IMA’s Volunteer Leadership Committee. Previously, he was chair of IMA's Diversity & Inclusion Committee.
