IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants) is pleased to share news that Jeff Thomson, CMA, CAE, president and CEO, has been named one of Accounting Today’s Top 100 Most Influential People in Accounting alongside some of the profession’s most prominent leaders. Thomson has earned this distinction six times over the last seven years.
Guided by Thomson’s clear leadership, during the 2017 fiscal year (FY) which ended June 30, more than 26,057 new candidates enrolled in the CMA program, representing a growth rate of more than 39% over the prior year. Additionally, ICMA® (Institute of Certified Management Accountants) certified 4,145 new CMAs, up from 3,840 last year. Equally important, the new candidate growth rate in the U.S. exceeded 25% in FY17, due in part to IMA’s successful integrated advertising and marketing communications campaign, as well as other initiatives.
Thomson worked at AT&T for more than two decades where he served in various financial, strategic, and operational roles including CFO of business sales. From 2005 to 2008, Thomson served as IMA vice president of research. In 2008, Thomson assumed his role as president and CEO of IMA. He has been named by Trust Across America as one of the “Top 100 Thought Leaders in Trustworthy Business Behavior” for the past six years in a row. The Accountant International Accounting Bulletin also recognized Thomson in its “Global Accountancy Power 50” list of leading influencers.
