A Message from Alain Mulder and IMA Europe

Dear IMA members in Europe,

First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Turkey and Syria right now as they attempt to recover from the devastating earthquake that has resulted in so much destruction and loss of life.

Despite the sadness we feel for our fellow European colleagues, this year has started out well for IMA Europe and we are pleased with the opportunities to serve as thought leaders for the profession. I had the opportunity to offer insights from some of our groundbreaking IMA research and on other topics of concern for management accountants. I encourage you to check out these articles (in Dutch); Financieel Management; Controllers Magazine; and Accountant.nl.

IMA Europe also had the opportunity to author a cover story on the topic of supply chain management in FINANCE magazine. This informative article, available in Greek, is authored by Makis Solomon, vice president of IIA Greece and IMA’s very own Steve McNally, Chair-Emeritus of IMA’s Global Board of Directors.

In other news, I’m excited to announce the launch of our new IMA Poland Chapter, which will give Polish professionals greater opportunities to network and expand their professional education. The chapter is already organizing a wide range of events, including annual meetings and educational and networking seminars. We conducted a ceremony on 3 March in Warsaw to inaugurate the new chapter officers, and we also saw three excellent finalist teams compete for the Europe Student Case Competition. Congratulations to all the students who participated in this competition.

In celebration of International Women’s Day this month, I also want to note two women from our chapters in Europe who were recently featured in Strategic Finance magazine. If you haven’t already done so, check out these IMA Life columns by Polina Nyer (in the December issue) and Ekaterina Emelianova (in the February issue), both accomplished CMAs. I also want to note the profile of another IMA Europe member that recently appeared in IMA’s Inside IMA newsletter: see this profile of Evert G. Brugman, CFO of Funda Real Estate B.V. in Amsterdam. Thanks to all three of you for sharing your stories!

Finally, I hope to see many of you at our European Accounting & Finance Conference: A New Frontier in Amsterdam on 20 April. This promises to be an inspiring and educational event, featuring top-tier speakers and business leaders from across Europe. Don’t miss it!

Please email me directly at amulder@imanet.org to share your thoughts and perspectives.
