Students: This year’s IMA Student Leadership Conference (SLC2022), being held in Pittsburgh on October 20-22, 2022, can be your bridge to the future. Following two years of virtual conferences, this in-person event will be jam-packed with three days of knowledge, networking, and fun. Registration is now open at www.imaslc.org

SLC2022, a great educational and networking event for all, will feature keynote sessions on:

  • “Lessons in Leadership” – Rooted in the premise that “we succeed or fail by the level of our expectation,” former Pittsburgh Steeler Quarterback Charlie Batch will give his thoughts on becoming your best, overcoming obstacles, working as a team, and preparing before the moment.
  • “The Journey to the C-Suite: Choices, Challenges, and Opportunities” – Hear Ilene Topper, senior vice president and CFO of Anywhere Integrated Services, share her personal and professional journey to the C-suite, including her suggestions for areas to focus on to keep your career on track.
  • “Showing Up vs. Showing Out” – Toni Murphy, senior vice president of Comcast’s Keystone Region, will offer insights on how to set yourself apart as a standout talent. She’ll discuss that while everyone is capable of being great, embracing the “show out” mentality is a wonderful way to solidify your brand as a rising star in any organization.

Other SLC2022 highlights will include concurrent sessions on topics such as forensic accounting; ESG; data analytics; financial planning and analysis; and the CMA® (Certified Management Accountant) certification.

For students ready to start their careers, several major companies will be on site to recruit for internships and full-time entry-level positions. Additionally, Johnson & Johnson and Cummins Inc., will be holding on-site interviews. To be considered for these interviews, submit your résumé along with your registration before October 7 (for full details, see Recruitment Opportunities).

“We are very excited to be back in-person for the Student Leadership Conference,” said Jodi Ryan, CAE, IMA director of member engagement. “We’ve assembled a great lineup of speakers, plus many opportunities for students to network and make contacts that can help them in their careers.”

On the first day of the Conference, attendees can choose one of four optional industry tours (additional fees apply) for a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the accounting and finance departments of the Pittsburgh Penguins, PNC Financial Services Group, PPG Industries, or U. S. Steel Corporation.

Some fun and educational networking events are planned as well. There will be the always-popular T-shirt design competition. Students are encouraged to have their school participate and join in this popular event. The winning team will receive $500 for their school or student chapter. New this year: An IMA TikTok Video Contest! Read this flyer to see all the details. Winners of both these contests will be unveiled at the Friday night networking event at Shorty’s Pins x Pints.
