Great news for students and the faculty members who teach them: For those with career questions—like whether to get certified, the benefits of working in public accounting vs. industry—here’s a great place to find answers.

IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants) will host another one of its popular “Ask Me Anything” virtual events on the Reddit platform. The event will take place on Wednesday, February 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. ET. Both IMA members and nonmembers can begin submitting questions at 10 a.m. that day.

Fielding the questions in real time will be IMA member Michael Kelley, CMA, CPA. Michael began his career at Deloitte, and he’s spent the past two years as a global operations manager at Nike, where much of his work involves data analysis, cost management, and overseeing a global supply chain. He’s especially eager to answer questions about making major career decisions, what it’s like to be a CMA® (Certified Management Accountant), and moving from a Big 4 firm to industry.

To participate, Reddit users can simply sign into the Reddit platform or create an account at www.reddit.com. The discussion can be found in Reddit’s accounting subreddit, with more than 200,000 members: https://reddit.com/r/Accounting/. It can also be found by searching this title on Reddit: “I’m a CMA and moved from Deloitte to Nike two years ago. Ask me about my career, what it’s like to be a CMA, or moving from a Big 4 to industry!”

“This forum provides a great opportunity for anyone who wants to know more about how the CMA program can support you in your career journey,” said Dennis Whitney, CMA, IMA senior vice president of certifications, exams, and content integration. “We’re pleased to have a practitioner share his first-hand perspective of working as a CMA and some of the questions that candidates, and especially students, might have about career and certification decisions.”
