In the midst of strong growth in both the number of new CMA? (Certified Management Accountant) candidates and new CMA certificates awarded, the CMA program continues to expand its global reach.

During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2017, ICMA (Institute of Certified Management Accountants) certified 4,145 new CMAs, up from 3,840 last year. During the fiscal year ended June 30, more than 26,057 new candidates enrolled in the CMA program, representing a growth rate of more than 39% over the prior year. Equally important, the new candidate growth rate in the U.S. exceeded 25% this fiscal year, due in part to IMA?s successful integrated campaign in both print and digital media, as well as other initiatives.

The Americas possess the highest concentration of CMAs, with approximately 65% of the more than 25,000 active CMAs located in this region. At the same time, the geographic reach of the exam continues to expand, particularly in China, which now has more than 4,000 active CMAs and more than 20,000 candidates enrolled in the program. Currently, more than 41,000 candidates around the world are actively studying for the exam and enrolled in the CMA program.

Also notable this fiscal year is the number of exam ?completions? that occurred ? that is, the total number of candidates enrolled in the program who completed the exams. More than 5,500 candidates achieved this goal.

Said Dennis Whitney, CMA, CAE, ICMA senior vice president of certifications, exams, and content integration, ?We continued to build on the success of our CMA program this year. As evidenced by these historic results, the CMA program is one of the fastest-growing accounting certifications in the world, with an annualized rate of more than 21 percent for the past five years. We are especially pleased by the surge in candidates from the U.S., which has been a key area of focus this year with our wide-ranging advertising and marketing campaign. We also continue to be encouraged by the strength of our program in China and look forward to pursuing additional efforts to attract new candidates both here and in other regions around the world.?
