IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants) recently released its Annual Review, highlighting its significant accomplishments in Fiscal Year 2020 (July 2019 through June 2020), a period dominated by a global health crisis that impacted nearly every aspect and corner of society. The report, themed “Stronger Together,” summarizes the events and milestones IMA reached, despite a pandemic, in terms of CMA® (Certified Management Accountant) metrics, global growth, educational offerings, and diversity and inclusion initiatives.
Among the key achievements of the past fiscal year, IMA:
- Reached all-time record numbers of members (144,000+ around the world) and new CMAs (17% year-over-year growth)
- Developed the CMA 2020 exam, reflecting digital and strategic skills needed to stay relevant
- Offered more than 100 continuing professional education (CPE) credits free of charge to members
- Introduced new career-focused CPE courses on cutting-edge topics like blockchain and data analytics
- Demonstrated a “soul of service” during the COVID-19 pandemic through charitable and educational offers to members and the community
- Hosted hundreds of virtual chapter events and educational courses across all global regions
- Strengthened its commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion with a new D&I webpage, a Diversity & Inclusion Jump-Start kit, and staff training
- Published leading-edge thought leadership on the most pressing issues affecting management accountants, from technology to sustainability reporting
The report, available for download on IMA’s website, features commentary from Christian Cuzick, CMA, FY 2019-2020 Chair of the IMA Global Board of Directors; and IMA President and CEO Jeff Thomson, CMA, CSCA, CAE.
Remarked Thomson, “This has been an unprecedented year, filled with disruptive events on a global scale. I am really proud of IMA’s response to these events. We acted with compassion, extending free product offers to members so they could stay engaged with learning during the crisis. Additionally, we fostered a sense of community at a time when people felt dislocated and disconnected. Whether it was a webinar, an online course, or a simple Zoom meeting, IMA connected people when they needed it most. While this year we faced many challenges, we found we are truly ‘Stronger Together.’”
