Join Us for the IMA Student Leadership Conference
Conference attendees will learn from practitioners, educators, and peers about:
- management accounting career opportunities
- the value of CMA® (Certified Management Accountant) certification
- job-search tips
- and more
The conference also will feature many student networking events plus the popular SLC t-shirt competition (congrats to last year’s co-winners, Indiana University East and University of Tennessee at Chattanooga!)
Jodi Ryan, IMA director of student and academic relations, said, “Last year’s conference attracted nearly 600 attendees, and we’re looking to continue that success. Don’t miss this year’s event in St. Louis, which will feature a slate of speakers and activities that will be both fun and educational. They will definitely help attendees develop critical networking and career-building skills.”
Land That First Job
Among the hundreds of students who attended last year’s conference in Houston was Hetal Adhia, who is pursuing a Master’s in Accounting at Michigan State University. Adhia had learned that Cummins was planning to recruit at the conference; she submitted her résumé, was invited to speak to recruiters at the conference, and after two rounds of interviews, was offered a job.
Summarizing her experience, Adhia said, “The SLC is a great platform to network with experienced leaders and learn from them. It also helps to connect students with employers for an internship or full-time job. Plus, all of the sessions are very student-focused, so they really can help you as you start your professional career.”
Ryan noted, “I also encourage students and IMA student chapters to start planning their fundraising activities to help defray conference expenses. Reach out to your parent IMA professional chapter now. Additionally, explore some fun, creative ideas, such as crowdfunding, car washes, concession stand sales, and more, to finance your attendance.”
