It is our honor to honor you. IMA® is currently seeking nominations for the IMA Global Awards that recognize proud, accomplished, selfless, fulfilled, experienced, distinguished, prestigious members. Below is the description of each award.

IMA Exemplary Leadership Award

To recognize an IMA member who has shown exceptional leadership skills in service to IMA consistent with IMA’s Mission and Core Values. This award recognizes contributions in volunteer leadership positions held over a period of years through demonstrated leadership attributes and personal expertise. There is no obligation to make an award. A maximum of two awards will be given annually.

IMA Exemplary Volunteer Award

To recognize an IMA member who exemplifies the true spirit of volunteerism through exemplary volunteer service to IMA consistent with its Mission and Core Values. This individual, regardless of length of service to IMA or IMA leadership positions held, will have demonstrated unselfish commitment and exceptional performance in support of the organization. This award is truly for an individual who goes beyond what might be expected and serves as an example of volunteerism for others to follow. There is no obligation to make an award. A maximum of two awards will be given annually.

IMA Exemplary Board Member Award

To recognize a member of IMA’s Global Board of Directors who, consistent with IMA’s Mission and Core Values, exemplifies what a Global Board member should be and do. This individual, regardless of length of service to IMA, serves as an example for all Global Board members and sets a standard for superior performance, participation, and service. There is no obligation to make an award. Only one award will be given annually.

IMA Distinguished Member Award

To recognize an IMA member whose successes, exceptional achievements, dedication, and professionalism bring honor to IMA and the profession, consistent with IMA’s Mission and Core Values. There is no obligation to make an award. A maximum of two awards will be given annually.

IMA Distinguished Advocate Award

To recognize an individual (nonmember) whose successes, exceptional achievements, dedication, and professionalism bring credit to IMA and/or the profession and to themselves, consistent with IMA’s Mission and Core Values. There is no obligation to make an award. A maximum of two awards will be given annually.

IMA Young Professional Award

IMA Young Professional Award

The IMA Young Professional Award is designed to recognize young professionals with outstanding and creative approaches to problem solving within the accounting and finance profession. Up to five award winners will be selected by IMA.

The Award is open to anyone who meets the following criteria:

  • Under the age of 33 as of July 1, 2016
  • Employed in the Accounting and Finance field
  • Completed Undergraduate Degree from an accredited school
  • Demonstrated and outstanding contribution in a professional role
  • Preferred: Holds CMA designation or is a current CMA candidate

To apply for this award, please submit your resume, a letter of recommendation with reference contact information (optional), and a response to one of the following questions as a personal statement in 250 words or less:

  • Describe how you demonstrate leadership.
  • What do you consider to be the greatest challenge facing the accounting profession today?
  • Discuss a time you faced an ethical dilemma and how you handled the situation.
  • How has certification furthered your career growth?
  • How have you positively impacted your company or the accounting profession?

2015 Winners

Distinguished Advocate Award:

Dr. Gerhard Mueller, CPA, recognized as the “father of international accounting education,” former member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), and professor emeritus of accounting at the University of Washington, Seattle; and Prof. Zhang Xinmin, vice president of the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) in Beijing, China, and a board member of the Accounting Society of China 

Distinguished Member Award:

Fatema El-Zahraa El-Wakeel, CMA, founder of the IMA Cairo Chapter,

Leslie Seidman, CPA, executive director of the Center for Excellence in Financial Reporting at the Lubin School of Business at Pace University and immediate past chair of the FASB 


Exemplary Board Member Award:

Pemberton Smith, CMA, senior program manager for engineering and operation services for General Dynamics Information Technology; past president of the IMA San Diego Chapter and the Wild West Council, and currently serving on the faculty of the IMA Leadership Academy.

Exemplary Volunteer Award:

Martha L. Alle, CPA, director of finance at St. Joseph’s Female Ursuline Academy, past president of the IMA Evansville Chapter and Lincoln Trail Regional Council, and IMA Global Board member.

Mary A. Strautmann, CPA, current president of the IMA Greater Milwaukee Chapter and past president of the Mid-America Council


Exemplary Leadership Award:

Susan E. Bos, CMA, CPA, CFE, past president of the IMA Ann Arbor Chapter and Michigan Regional Council, as well as a former IMA Global Board of Directors member.

Rick S. Thompson, CMA, CPA, immediate past chair of the ICMA Board of Regents and past president of the IMA Spartanburg Area Chapter and Carolinas Regional Council 

 

Young Professional of the Year Award:

Adrien Dubourg, CMA, of Dallas, Texas. Mr. Dubourg is the president of Descartes Consulting LLC, a management consulting firm. He has served as a board member of IMA’s Dallas-Fort Worth Chapter, including leading its Young Professionals and Academic Relations Committee.   

Ashley Gibson, CMA, CPA, of Houston Texas. Ms. Gibson is a senior consultant in Audit & Enterprise Risk Services at Deloitte & Touche LLP. She served as chair of IMA’s Young Professional Advisory Committee and co-chair of IMA’s Young Professional Digital Community. 

Brian Neale, CMA, CPA, of Minneapolis, Minn. Mr. Neale is currently a finance manager at General Mills, where he is a member of the company’s Financial Leadership Development Program.  Mr. Neale spoke at IMA’s 15th Annual Student Leadership Conference in Indianapolis last year.

Tasheé Singleton, of Columbus, Ga. Ms. Singleton is the director of public housing operations for the Housing Authority of Columbus, Georgia. She is the IMA Gulf South Council chair-elect and has served for many years with her local IMA chapter.

2014 Winners

Distinguished Member Award (one winner):

Curtis C. Verschoor, Ph.D., CMA®, CPA, CIA, CFE, CFA, CFP, ACA, CAE. Verschoor serves as emeritus ledger & quill research professor in the School of Accountancy and MIS at DePaul University, is the incoming chair of IMA’s Committee on Ethics and a member of IMA’s Northwest Suburban Chicago Chapter.

Exemplary Board Member Award (one winner):

Brad Monterio. Monterio is managing director of Colcomgroup, chair of the Technology Solutions and Practices Standing Advisory Committee, and a member of IMA’s New York Chapter.

Exemplary Leadership Award (2 award winners):

Ginger White, BB, MBB, MBA. White is a Six Sigma Master Black Belt at Cummins, she sits on the IMA Global Board of Directors and serves as chair of the Member Relations Committee. She is a member of IMA’s South Central Indiana Chapter. Harvey Childers, CPA. Childers has held leadership positions in nearly all of IMA’s Global Volunteer Committees and has been a member of IMA’s Wichita Chapter since 1972.

Exemplary Volunteer Award (2 award winners):

Toni Spina, CPA. Spina is shareholder at Bailey Carr & Company CPAs, vice president and treasurer of IMA’s Upstate New York Regional Council, vice president of Professional Education for IMA’s Rochester Chapter, and a member of IMA’s Board of Directors.

Sheryl Elliott. Elliott works for VVF Illinois Services, serves as the Stuart Cameron McLeod Society (SCMS) secretary and is president of IMA’s Fox River Valley Chapter.

Mr. Ronald D. Luther, CMA, CPA, Business Manager of St. Ambrose’s Catholic Parish, and Director of the South Central Indiana Chapter

IMA Exemplary Volunteer Award (one winner):

Mr. James (Jimmie) C. Smith, CPA, Senior Manager, Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance at Occidental Petroleum Corporation, and Regional Vice President of the Dallas Fort Worth Area Chapter

IMA Distinguished Member Award (2 award winners):

Mr. Dennis (Denny) R. Beresford, CMA, CFM, CPA, Atlanta Chapter Mr. Gary M. Cokins, CPIM, Founder and CEO at Analytics-Based Performance Management LLC

Eligibility for Awards: All nominees, except those for the Distinguished Advocate Award, must be an IMA member in good standing during the nomination period and at the time of their award presentation. 

Exclusions for Awards: Chair-Elect, Chair, Chair-Emeritus, and former IMA Presidents and Chairs are not eligible to receive these awards.
