"Cummins is a strong advocate for the CMA program, and there’s a lot of encouragement within the company to get certified. I hadn’t been with the company very long when I realized that taking the CMA would offer many advantages."

Kurt Riddle, CMA

"I believe it’s very important that people demonstrate mastery of a subject by earning an objective signal or sign that they have achieved a certain level of competency. That’s why the CMA is such an excellent certification: It shows mastery of a very broad range of subjects."

Dr. Wanda A. Wallace, CMA, CPA, CIA

“Financial analysis and decision support are central to management accounting practice, and the CMA focuses on these areas.”

Bob Laux, CMA, CPA

“I didn’t really follow a traditional accounting path: I majored in management and economics in college…As a manager, I’ve encouraged many members of my staff to pursue their certification. I decided that it was time to lead by example and earned one myself.”

Tips on Scheduling Your Exam Appointments

To ensure your first choice of date, time, and location is available, it's best to schedule your appointment at least four weeks in advance. All exam appointments must be scheduled at least 72 hours in advance of the exam date. Please note, if you reschedule your appointment within 30 days of your appointment date, you will incur a $50 rescheduling fee. Appointments can't be rescheduled to another testing window. Once you are registered, you must take the exam part during your assigned testing session. If, for any reason, you are unable to schedule an exam appointment during the assigned testing window, you will need to pay for a new registration.

If you are unable to keep a scheduled exam appointment with Prometric, you must cancel 72 hours prior to your appointment date. To cancel an exam appointment, call Prometric at (800) 479-6370, Monday through Saturday, or go to If you don't comply with this cancellation policy, you will be considered a "no-show" and will need to re-register with ICMA and pay the new registration fee. If you cancel an exam appointment you must reschedule in the same testing window.

Exam Retake Policy

An exam part may be taken only once in a testing window (e.g., Part 1 may be taken only once within the January/February testing window). All exam retakes require a new registration, along with payment of appropriate fees.

Expiration of Exam Parts

All CMA candidates have three years to complete the CMA program, including Parts 1 and 2 of the exam. The time period will begin with the date of your entry into the CMA program. If you don't pass the two-part exam within three years, credit for the part passed will expire, and you will have to retake the exams.
