The networking opportunities provided by IMA enable members to learn from peers, share resources, and grow professionally. From students to seasoned management accounting professionals, members are fully engaged in the IMA experience. Encouraging the volunteer efforts of our members is another important way that we strengthen their links to the profession and foster leadership skills.
Chapters Offer Connection, Community
A unique value of IMA is our extensive network of more than 300 professional and student chapters and councils around the world. From the Americas to Europe, Asia/Pacific, and the Middle East/Africa—and on a rising number of college campuses—involvement in our chapters is a vital part of the IMA experience, providing in-person networking, educational, leadership, career-enhancement, and mentoring opportunities.
Over 7,000 student members
Reflecting IMA’s ability to engage and inspire tomorrow’s leaders of the profession, the number of IMA student members exceeded 7,000 in 2013. In fact, student membership has grown year over year for 50 consecutive months. The number of student chapters is now nearly 100, more than double the number of two years ago. We continue our efforts to encourage, grow, and nurture the future members of our profession.
Online, Real-Time Engagement
With our growing use of social media and other online channels, IMA’s member engagement is increasingly taking place virtually. By the end of fiscal 2013, our social media efforts attracted more than 12,000 “likes” on Facebook. LinkUp IMA, our online peer-to-peer community, is a widely used member benefit, enabling members to join relevant subject-matter groups, share expertise, access mentors, and view blogs. And IMA’s popular live webinars attract an average of 1,000 attendees at each event.
The effectiveness of our online engagement initiatives has been recognized independently. ON24, a webcasting and virtual communication solutions provider, honored one of our Inside Talk webinars with an Excellence in Virtual Training award. This recognition puts IMA alongside leading organizations, such as Merck, SAP, and PwC, for delivering quality online learning.
Volunteerism and Values
Volunteer engagement is deeply embedded in our culture, helping to make the IMA experience relevant to members on a personal level. Volunteers are an irreplaceable source of energy, commitment, and expertise for the organization. Involvement in volunteer activities, such as serving in positions with IMA’s local chapters and councils, on the Global Board of Directors, or on volunteer committees, provides invaluable leadership experience and can be a source of lifelong professional relationships. By volunteering, members get the most out of IMA—and have an opportunity to give back to their fellow members and the profession.
