“It’s great to be part of a global organization of professionals who are as excited about the field as I am.”
“IMA has shaped my whole perspective on management accounting. When I came to Culver-Stockton one of my professors, Dr. Dell Ann Janney, was very active in IMA and encouraged me to learn more about it. I attended a few meetings of the campus Chapter and the local Quincy Chapter. The meeting topics were always relevant to my studies and the ability to network with other students and management accounting professionals was incredibly valuable.
“I started out as a Finance major, but once I learned about IMA and management accounting, I decided to do a double major in Finance and Accounting. Culver-Stockton strongly encourages students to pursue the CMA program, so I’m looking forward to taking the CMA exam before I graduate. I also had the opportunity to apply for and win the Stuart Cameron McLeod Society National Scholarship, so IMA is even supporting my studies.
“IMA gives me a chance to make a contribution to the profession. I spoke to the Quincy Chapter about ‘Social Media in Business,’ as well as the use of iPads in business. Our Culver-Stockton Chapter created an application that helps students to connect with IMA. And, I had the opportunity to become copresident of the Quincy Chapter.
“Being a chapter copresident—and a student at the same time—is a major responsibility. But IMA has been a terrific support network. Members from other chapters have suggested program topics, and Jeff Thomson came to visit our chapter.
“IMA has helped me network and sharpen my organizational, planning, and communications skills. It opened my eyes to the value of the CMA, which is so relevant to what management accountants do day-to-day. Down the road, I know IMA will be helpful in launching my career.”
