Letter from the 2011–2012 Chair

Brian L. McGuire, 2011-2012 ChairI am proud to say that in fiscal 2012, IMA continued to do what we do best: putting our members’ interests first. This sharp focus on providing ever-increasing value for our members and our profession led to a year of exceptional growth and progress.

One of the important ways that we strengthened IMA’s value proposition during the past year was by forming strategic partnerships with highly respected global organizations whose mission is similar to our own.

For instance, we launched a strategic partnership with the U.K.-based Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), one of the world’s leading and most respected accounting associations. Our partnership with ACCA already has yielded several collaborative projects, including the Global Economic Conditions Surveys; CFO roundtables in New York, Shanghai, Moscow, and Zurich; and a joint call for research proposals. Over time, we expect our relationship with ACCA to include more research efforts; C-suite studies and CFO roundtables; joint chapter events; and opportunities to increase awareness and adoption of our respective certification and educational programs.

Strategic Partnerships on a Global Scale

IMA also began a strategic partnership with publisher John Wiley & Sons for the co-branding, distribution, and product design of the CMA Learning System (CMA LS) exam preparation and learning suite of products. The CMA program will benefit from the vast resources and publishing infrastructure of Wiley, a $2 billion enterprise. Working cooperatively with Wiley should greatly increase the distribution of CMA LS products and raise the visibility of the CMA among academics and students worldwide.

During fiscal 2012, we also laid the foundation for a partnership with the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), which will become the first university in the Netherlands to incorporate the CMA curriculum into its Master’s in Accounting & Control curriculum. RSM will be an authorized CMA Review Course Provider, and its students will have an opportunity to earn CMA certification. This will enhance the visibility and prestige of the CMA credential on an international scale. The formal launch of this partnership was announced early in fiscal 2013.

These partnerships are just a few examples of our unswerving efforts to deliver solid value to IMA members and the profession. We remain deeply committed to enhancing our members’ leadership potential, expanding their career opportunities, maintaining a vibrant professional community, and serving as a voice for management accountants globally. We will always strive to be worthy of the membership of IMA’s valued stakeholders.

Sincerely,

Brian L. McGuire, Ph.D., CMA, CPA, CBM, CITP
